Contract Description:
The Yakama Reservation Watershed Project has completed numerous restoration actions since 1996 in the Satus, Toppenish, and Ahtanum Watersheds-- all tributaries of the Yakima River.  These actions targeted ESA listed Middle Columbia Steelhead as well as other anadromous and resident fish species.  Under this contract, we intend to implement and design several projects to further enhance fish habitat.

Under the contract beginning April 1st, 2023, we will complete the following actions to enhance steelhead habitat:

-Remove a culvert / fish passage barrier, and replace with a bridge to allow access to 8 more miles of habitat for steelhead spawning and rearing
- screening of a ditch off of Toppenish Creek and prevent entrainment of steelhead at the location of the Lawrence Ditch
- Implement more phases of Beaver Dam Analogues to improve wetland meadow complexes
- Complete restoration designs (funded by BPA) for Pom Pom RM40, and designs for a new bridge and culverts (different funding sources) to allow appropriate floodplain connection and flow conveyance. Designs will outline restoration actions to improve up to 2.3 miles of Toppenish Creek, fish passage barrier removal, floodplain connection, riparian planting, fencing, and an increase in complexity leading to a self-sustaining environment.
- Designs for first of four identified reaches of Satus Creek to implement wood structures (engineered), and loose wood to increase complexity, access side channels, and increase floodplain connectivity to provide habitat for all life stages of steelhead.

In addition to these restoration actions and designs, we will continue to assist with instream minimum flow implementation, in-stream temperatures, fencing, and monitoring for adaptive management purposes.

2 - an on-call contract with a firm to assist with pre-design survey development, assist with additional surveys needed on restoration projects within the SOW, assist with presentation of restoration materials, and assist with vegetation plans
3 - adding funding to operations and equipment to purchase items for post restoration monitoring
4 - new line item for fencing at Simcoe west white swan to keep cattle out of the previously completed restoration project
5 - staff hours and cultural resource program time to complete section 106 on YRWP restoration projects
6 - line item for BPA staff time for support on the 3-way restoration project
